Obituary of George B. Wood

George B. Wood, III, age 73 of Dallas, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born in Binghamton, NY on August 4, 1947, and was the son of the late George and Adelia Metebich Wood. George gradated form Dallas High School in 1965. He then enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam Conflict with the Walking Dead, earning the purple heart medal. George was a union boilermaker, worked as a welder at Airgas and Milton Railcar Systems, and held various metal fabrication jobs until he got his last job as a case manager with the PA Unemployment Office, where he worked for over 25 years. Throughout his life he was a member of just about everything at one point, from the Legion, NRA, Shine, and the Noxen Rod and Gun Club, with which he served as treasurer for several years. He loved playing and watching sports, and even had the privilege of being in the stadium to watch the Phillies win the World Series in 2008. He is survived by his sons John Wood and wife Maria of Noxen and Jason Wood of Noxen; daughters, Autumn Wood of Hawaii and Angela Wood of Alden; former wife, Julie Markle; and granddaughter, Emma June Wood. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at 7:00 PM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek with Pastor L.D. Reed, Emmanuel Assembly of God Church, Harveys Lake, officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Friday before the service. Online condolences can be made at clswansonfuneralhome.com
