Joy Lou Wickard, age 85, wife of Duane Wickard, Sr. of Sweet Valley, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021 at home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Sweet Valley on April 1, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Basil and Ethel Blaine Steele.
Joy graduated from Lehman High School. She was a famous pie baker with the former Steele’s Restaurant, Sweet Valley, and was know for her knitting skills. Joy was an active member of the Sweet Valley Lady’s Auxiliary and the Living Word Baptist Church. She had a huge heart, loved helping others, and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by granddaughter, Amber Wickard; and brother, John Steele.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Duane Wickard at home; daughter, Fallie Padwa and husband Eugene of Endicott, NY; son, Duane “Butch”, Wickard, Jr and wife Eileen of East Greenville, PA; son, Steven Wickard and wife Holly of Sweet Valley; daughter, Barbara Auchus and husband Doug of Lake Alfred, FL; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
