Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas Emerson “Si” Evans, age 75 of Shavertown, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas.
Better known as Tom, and to many still as “Si,” he was the first of 5 children, born in Kingston on January 26, 1946 to the late Thomas Emerson Evans and Jean Elston Evans. He always proudly called the Back Mountain his home. He graduated from Lake Lehman High School in 1963 before attaining a bachelor’s degree from Wilkes College in Business Administration, after which he served in the US Army for 6 years as a military policeman. He will be remembered for his strong faith in God and his enduring devotion to family and friends. He would have celebrated 43 years of marriage to his loving and faithful wife, Jayne, whom he truly adored, on July 1st.
Tom was never a stranger to hard work, whether it be helping out on family farms from a young age and starting a paper route at the age of 10, or studying hard while working the Parkade at The Boston Store to put himself through college. He worked as a computer programmer for many years as he lovingly supported his wife and kids. Tom’s family was his greatest pride and joy, his second love being baseball.
He played ball from a young age and spent 40+ years managing baseball teams of the Back Mountain Little League and American Legion Baseball. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by sister Shirley Haas; and brother Charles Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Jayne Thoma Evans; sons Randy Evans and wife Carrie Snyder-Evans of Mount Holly Springs, PA, Darrell Evans of Hagerstown, MD and William Evans of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter Kristin Evans of Shavertown, PA; grandsons Chase and Noah; granddaughters Kyleigh, Brynley and Emily; sisters Marjorie Miller and husband Robert Miller of Harrisburg, PA and Marie Whalen and husband Joseph Whalen of Bernville, PA; brother-in-law, Harry Haas of Kunkle ; aunt, cousins and many nieces and nephews.
