Obituary of Ruby Jeanette Howell

Ruby J. Howell, age 89 of Centermoreland, passed away Saturday morning, December 8, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Howell was born in Machias, NY on March 7, 1923 and was the daughter of the late George F. and Florence Napier Pierce. Ruby graduated from beauty school in Buffalo, NY and resided in Franklinville, NY. After the War she and her late husband, Donald, moved to Delevan, NY and operated a dairy farm. During that time she was busy being a housewife and working for the Kender Music Co. They also made and sold maple syrup and maple sugar products. In 1969 they moved to Largo, Florida where they resided for 33 years. They then settled in Centermoreland to be with their son James in 2002. Ruby was a member of the Northmoreland Baptist Church in Centermoreland and was an avid reader and also enjoyed politics. In her early years she was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her own clothes. Her husband, Donald, died on June 8, 2003. She was also preceded in death by granddaughters: Stephanie and Kimberly Howell; brothers: Maurice and James Pierce; sisters: Marguerite Trowbridge and Betty Cagwin. She is survived by sons: Donald C. Howell and his wife, Penny, of Delevan, NY and Rev. James Howell and his wife, Ruth Ann of Centermoreland; daughter: Rebecca Sue Heintzelman and her husband, Richard of Irving, TX; 13 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Mrs. Howell's funeral will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM from the Northmoreland Baptist Church, 21 Ripple Brook Road, Centermoreland with her grandson, Rev. Jeffrey Howell, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, Jersey Shore, officiating. Interment will be in the Perrins Marsh Cemetery, Centermoreland. Friends may call Monday from 7:00 PM -8:30 PM at the Curtis l. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 & 118, Pikes Creek. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the Northmoreland Baptist Church, 21 Ripple Brook Road, Tunkhannock, PA 18657
