Obituary of James Melvyn Seward

James "Jim" Seward, age 75 of Beaumont, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Kingston on March 20, 1943 and was the son of the late Charles and Evelyn Compton Seward. Jim graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1961 and Wilkes-Barre Technical School. He served in the US Army National Guard as an artillery specialist during the Vietnam Era. Jim attended Northmoreland Baptist Church and was a member of the Endless Mountain Antique Power Association. He was also caretaker of the Beaumont Cemetery for over 30 years. Since his retirement, he enjoyed restoring antique tractors especially John Deere. As a model train enthusiast, Jim enjoyed his large collection of trains. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Irene Sickler; sons, Brian of Beaumont and Bradley and his wife Jennifer of Lake Winola; daughters, Kimberly Seward of Dallas and Kathy Brokenshire of Beaumont; brothers, Charles and his wife Irma of Noxen and Larry and his wife Sue of Dallas; sister, Donna Konopka and her husband Larry of Glastonbury, CT; grandchildren, Bryan and Taylor Brokenshire, Bradley, Sarah, Justin, Emily, Kaylee and Stephanie Seward; great-grandsons, Cameron, Harley and Aiden. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 am from the Northmoreland Baptist Church, 21 Ripple Brook Rd., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Pastor James Howell and Pastor Kurt Seboe, officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, January 25 at the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. Interment will be in the Beaumont Cemetery, Monroe Twp. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Medical Oncology Associates of Kingston and the Wyoming County Cancer Society.
