Obituary of Barbara Ann Simms

Barbara Ann Gregory "Bamma" Simms, age 83 of Lehman, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at home. Mrs. Simms was born in Kingston on March 15, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Gordon and Hilda DePew Gregory. Barbara graduated from Kingston High School in 1950 and was employed as a guidance secretary for the Lake-Lehman School District for 35 years. She also served as a Lehman Twp. Planning Commissioner and Zoning Officer for 55 years. Barbara was a Red Cross volunteer and an avid knitter. She met her late husband, William, who was the love of her life, at the Sky Lake Methodist Camp in New York and they were married in 1953. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother, Gordon Gregory. Barbara is survived by sons, Gregory and his wife Kerrie of Marcellus, NY and Bryan and his wife Cathy of Lehman; sister, Betty Jane Cooper of Kingston; grandchildren, Joshua Simms, Matthew Simms, Kimber Simms, Zachary Simms and Elizabeth Dohman; great-grandchildren, Arabella and Anderson; sister-in-law, Judith Dawe of Lehman; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Lori Robinson of the Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lehman Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donation to be made to the Salvation Army, 17 S. Pennsylvania Ave. , Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701 or the American Red Cross, 256 N Sherman St, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
