Obituary of Irene Agnes Zaleskas

Irene Zaleskas, of Harveys Lake, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 84. Irene grew-up in Ashley and attended Marymount High School in Wilkes-Barre. She graduated from the General Hospital Nursing Program and became a Registered Nurse, working at the Noxen Clinic with Dr. Saidman and Dr. Jacobs. She went back to college at 45 years old and became one of the first Physician's Assistants in the State of Pennsylvania. She was then employed by the Rural Health Corporation in Noxen and Shickshinny. Irene was the much-loved wife to the late John Zaleskas and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated community volunteer; at the Red Cross, as a PTA president, a Lake-Lehman Band and Football Parent, Girl Scout Leader, Alter and Rosary Society Leader, and a CCD Leader at Our Lady of Victory Church. Irene is survived by her brother, Charles Myers and his family; her children: JoAnn Ralphs, Irene Sankey, Jayne Lynn, John Zaleskas and Jean Zaleskas; and her grandchildren: Christopher and Lauren Ralphs, Alison Sankey Mike and Gabrielle Attardo, John, Daniel and Andrea Zaleskas, and Zachary Zaleskas. Everyone is invited to visit and pay respects on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Our Lady of Victory Church, Lakeside Drive, Harveys Lake, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will begin with a visitation hour, followed by a funeral mass. A private interment will be in the Perrigo Cemetery, Harveys Lake, at a later time.
