Obituary of Agnes Gertude Lewis

Agnes Gertude Lewis, age 90 of Dallas, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Birchwood Nursing And Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke. Mrs. Lewis was born in Wilkes-Barre Township on October 7, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Agnes Merry Wanto. Agnes graduated from Wilkes-Barre Township High School in 1941 and was employed as a seamstress for many sewing factories in the valley for many years. She was an avid bowler who enjoyed dancing and cooking. She did pastoral care for 14 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Osborne R. Lewis, brother, John Wanto, sisters, Nancy Smith and Jeanette McGovern, and 2 great-grandchildren. Agnes is survived by son, David O. Lewis and his wife Myra of Bethlehem; daughter, Patricia Evans and her husband Linford of Dallas; sister, Mary Lou Blackwood of Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 1:30 pm from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corners of routes 29 and 118, with the Rev. William S. Marshall of the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre,officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. Friends may call 12:00 Noon - to the time of the service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Federation of the Blind, 200 East Wells Street at Jernigan Place, Baltimore, Maryland 21230.
