Obituary of Joseph Charles Martin

Joseph Charles Martin, 89 years old, of Pikes Creek, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Monday, January 13, 2025. Joseph was born September 30, 1935 to the late Emma Lillian (Hagel) and Clifford Martin of Pikes Creek, where he resided all his life. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Jean (Piatt) Martin, Pikes Creek; and his children, daughter, Carol Rosser and husband, John, Sweet Valley; daughter, Brenda Marvin and husband Aaron, Shickshinny; son, Ronald Martin; and daughter, Karen Dadey, both of Hunlock Creek; and son, James and wife Lori (McMurtry) Martin, Sweet Valley; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Claude Martin, Cora Harmon, and Irene Yeager and her husband Richard; and sister-in-law, Travila Price, all of Hunlock Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his 10 siblings and other family members. Joe attended Laketon High School, Harveys Lake, graduating in 1953. He was a carpenter and mason for Whitesell Brothers Homes, Lehman, building many local homes and churches. Joe also worked on numerous interstate bridge projects for BG Coon Construction Company, Luzerne, retiring in 1997. He continued to enjoy logging, building projects, and travel, especially by train. During retirement, he began to bake thousands of cookies to share with his friends and community, earning the nickname "Cookie Joe". He was a member of Roaring Brook Baptist Church, Hunlock Creek, for over 70 years, and greatly appreciated his close friends in faith, especially Pastor Dan and Ruth Ann Brubaker. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 12:00 PM from the Roaring Brook Baptist Church, 332 Prichards Rd, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621 with Pastors Dan Brubaker and Zach Chamberlain, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Roaring Brook Baptist Church, 332 Prichards Rd, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621. Arrangements are by the Curtis L.
