I was born April 1957 to Audrey and John Wright, my grandmother was the former Hilda May Crispell. She was a sister to Lillian Crispell Boone. (Nancy’s Mom) She was one of the many siblings born to George and Marion Crispell. All the members of this family were very gentle, sweet, kind, loved everyone. Lillian and ( Bud Boone.) had two daughters, Nancy and Sharon.
Both of these sisters have the same wonderful traits as their Aunts and Uncles had . They were always kind. I remember going as a child over Bob’s and Nancy’s house many times. We always took our shoes off because we didn’t want to dirty her beautiful home which was always tidy and clean. We’d go down to the basement and ride those bicycles and cars with Jeff. We had so much fun growing up. We were always a close family. My Mom, and Nancy were very close. I know they talked on the phone a great deal, and when Nancy passed away. I felt a big link of the chain connected to my Mom past, break at Nancy’s passing.
I came down with breast cancer several years ago I went through chemotherapy and radiation. Nancy sent me so many cards of encouragement, knowing she was sick herself, but she still took the time, What wonderful caring heart she had.
Growing up in Buckwheat Hollow was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to all of us cousins. We had so many cousins and had so much fun. We loved swimming and helping Uncle Lester in the hayfield he would pay us with little bottles of chocolate milk. We loved helping him. He had more kids on that hay wagon than hay itself. After we finished haying we searched for volunteer drivers, If Shirley was unable to take us swimming , we will go farther down the road and ask Sandy, if she couldn’t take us we’d go ask Bob and Nancy. Always after supper dishes were done. Most of the time they would. They would get that convertible out and haul all us kids down to the old dark hole. They were always ready to entertain us kids.
Nancy had her second baby, Bradly, and I remember her letting us kids push him in that Cadillac of a carriage she had. She trusted us to push him around in that fancy carriage. We played a big part keeping him entertained. He was a cute little Blondie. Nancy was blessed with two Sons Jeffrey and Bradley. Jeff followed in his Grandfathers footsteps and learned plumbing from the best! He also took on driving school kids on good old bus # 26, to Tunkhannock schools! Nancy’s kind heart was also given to Jeff and Brad who took such great care of their Mom and Dad! She could never find any better Sons!
She was blessed with her Wonderful Soulmate, the love of her life for 66 years to Robert Bennett! Their lives showed how much they loved and treasured each other!
Oh how she treasured her boys! She was a wonderful Mom to them! They know that God gave them the best !!!
We used to sometimes go to Aunt Tilly‘s and play on that little Bank and pretend we were performing concerts with the garden hose on that hill. I remember a lot of fun we had Including Jeff singing, Winchester Cathedral, the famous #1 hit! Or Nancy bringing Sugar, that bucking, high, spirited pony around for us kids to ride! She was so good controlling Sugar, kept him from biting us too, and bucking us off, boy how he tried!
Nancy had a wonderful heart. She would always buy us some really cool birthday presents. I remember several ,two of my favorites, a little wooden picnic table which I absolutely loved and also a magnetic dollhouse which you could push around with magnetic poles underneath. I Remember, you could take a little mouse and the cat could chase it all over the house. two people operating it made it really fun. It was so wonderful, she always put a lot of thought in whatever she bought for us. She liked to shop, and she shopped until she really found something she liked. If it was my birthday, I would get a present and she’d bring something for my sister too I would say to my mom why is she giving her a present? It’s not her birthday. She said “well you know Nancy she doesn’t want anyone to feel bad. She wants them to feel like they’re important too! “She was really good at buying the perfectly, matched gift. We’d go over to her house at Christmas time and she will give us these wonderful Santa Claus cookies ! We would each get one and they were wonderful, and so good. I would just eat mine piece by piece and try to save it. I think Nancy‘s mother-in-law Ruth Bennett made them, they were really special. I remember getting them several years. They were so good.
Such happy memories we had growing up in Buckwheat hollow and Nancy put a lot into our upbringing. She was a wonderful example of a good Mom. She liked to visit Aunt Midge, and she would pick up everybody and take them down to see her. I think I went maybe one time I know my sister went several times. She said Nancy always was the driver.
She loved the family reunions . We would all get together. It’s kind of sad as each relative passes. Seems to be less and less that you get together, and get to know each others families.
Such wonderful memories we have growing up. All our relatives helped to shape and influence us during those influential years, And all of them lived around the hollow. Such a nice wonderful family, I know Nancy played a huge role in all our upbringing as well as all the Aunt and Uncles had in her upbringing. We could go to Uncle Cecil‘s and Aunt Effie’s for Halloween, assured of getting a nice big pieces of candy.
Nancy Crispell has such a wonderful pool, and that old pipe . At Aunt Tilly, and Uncle Buds we had so much fun going over there playing on that bank, or picking hickory nuts. At Shirley’s we’d go there to watch the Wizard of Oz on colored tv. Aunt Alta and Uncle Ernie’s to play on the school bus or sleigh ride down the hill, or visit her for that famous chocolate cake she kept in the refrigerator. Uncle lester‘s and Aunt Hazels for summer haying , and riding down the snow covered hills. Aunt Hilda, Uncle Clarence, was a great example who put God first in their lives. And Aunt Midge, and UncleMaurice, for their undying love for God, what examples we had .All of Nancy’s Aunts and Uncles including those in Florida, Aunt Velma, Uncle Howard, Aunt Ester, Uncle Curly, Uncle Lawrence, Aunt Fannie, many cousin were all connected by love! Nancy loved everyone with all her heart! What a great example and legacy she left to all of us!
Nancy and my mom and the rest of their cousins grew up in the Buckwheat Hollow and all those aunts and uncles played a role in Nancy’s upbringing as well my Mom’s, and all those aunts, uncles and cousins played a role in our lives making wonderful memories!
We’re going to miss you Nancy!
You are loved so much!
Forever in our Hearts!!
