Obituary of James Francis Shovlin
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James "Jimmy" "Jimbo" Shovlin, 86, of East End, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10th, at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Hospice Care, surrounded by his beloved children.
Born on August 19, 1938, Jimmy was the son of the late Anna and James Shovlin of Wilkes-Barre. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife and high school sweetheart of 62 years, Florence "Flossie" Shovlin; his daughter, Karen Spagnola; and his siblings Frank Shovlin and Pearl Dietrick. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Naugle and her husband Kevin; his son Randy 'Bo' Shovlin and his wife Concetta; his son in law Bob Siskovitch; his sister Dorothy 'Dot' Hall; his brother Donald "Donnie" Shovlin; his grandchildren Nicole Marconi and her husband Jason, Alycia Fletcher and her husband Billy, Kyle and Keera Naugle, and Mackenzie and McKenna Shovlin; and his great-grandchildren Brielle, Maxwell, Quinn, and Bennett.
Jimmy was a student of Plains Area schools before enlisting in the military, where he proudly served with the 109th Field Artillery from 1958 to 1963. After his military service, he became a highly regarded employee at Diamond Vending, part of Coca-Cola, until his retirement. Not ready for retirement, Jimmy joined American Food & Vending, where he worked until his second retirement. After his 2nd retirement he did end up working once again at his son-in-law's, Naugle's Custom Butchering and Deer Processing, where he was able to storytell and chat amongst customers when not actually working.
Married to Flossie on October 4, 1958, Jimmy's life was centered around his family and his love for the outdoors. Together, Jimmy and Flossie enjoyed many trips to Maine and Lake George. When not traveling, Jimmy could be found hunting from Bradford County to Red Rock Mountain and embarking on week-long Adirondack adventures with friends Stanley, Bobby and Mark, with his most recent trip being in 2023. As a grandfather, Jimmy took great pride in teaching and mentoring his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all things outdoors—whether it was deer or turkey season, fishing at Lake Francis on the First Day of Trout, or building tree stands and providing BB guns to kick off hunting learning. His final request was that he be in his camo for any services and cremation. In addition to hunting, he enjoyed spending time with his dogs outdoors, most recently Little Jimmy and Frankie, who have been his companions since Flossie's passing and are now in the loving home of a foster/possible forever home which the family is so grateful for.
A prayer service will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 6:00 PM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Linda McDermott, officiating, followed by cremation in accordance with Jimbo's wishes.
