Obituary of Ruth Arlene Bond

Ruth Arlene (Traver) Bond, 92, of Harveys Lake, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. She was born in Wilkes-Barre on February 1, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Frank Webster Traver and Edith Mae (Pearn) Traver. Ruth was a 1949 graduate of Meyers High School representing the school as Mohawk Queen in her senior year. In her younger days, she enjoyed swimming, water-skiing, and ice-skating. She worked from high school up until the age of 77, once counting the many places she worked to be just shy of 30. We laughed at how she could go out looking for a new job and immediately come home with one…always being capitalized on for her exceptional math skills. She was our successful recruiter when anyone in the family was in search of a job and kept us all informed by faithfully reading the Times Leader from front to back and then working her puzzles. Her favorite places of employment were Bell Telephone in Philadelphia where she received an award for her suggestion to make it possible to reach the operator in a pay phone booth without a coin after reading about a woman that had been trapped in one with no way to call for help, Robert Hall Clothes in Pottstown, Northeastern Bank as head teller and Mercy Center as receptionist, both in Dallas. She always enjoyed her neighbors wherever she lived and her places of employment, making many long-lasting friendships along the way, especially her dear, devoted friend, Sister Esther Ann, who faithfully came to visit her up until the very end. At the age of 91, Ruth was still keeping in touch with everyone either by phone calls or via the computer…pretty awesome at using Facebook into her 90s. I think every one of the family and friends ended up on the "Prayer Board" when they were in need of prayer and in the autumn, everyone would get a call to remind them to be careful driving on the wet leaves. She enjoyed feeding the wild critters from her back deck and her weekly Saturday night polka shows. Truly her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife and beloved mother and grandmother who took great pride in her children and their activities. She was a Girl Scout Leaer and Den Mother and chauffeur for everything her kids were involved in…all the while making sure they all had everything they needed and keeping her home(s) as neat as a pin, always welcoming everyone. She leaves behind many wonderful memories and smiles on our faces as we remember her love and devotion. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harmon "Ham" Bond, who was the "love of her life" since she was 15 and he was 16. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage. Also, preceded in death by her brother, Donald Traver and great-grandson, Kyle Kulp. Surviving are her three children, daughter Lori Kulp of Dallas, son Mark Bond of Lake Ariel, and daughter Lisa Slocum and her husband Ernest of Dallas. Also surviving are her sister, Audrey Wilke of Weatherly, grandchildren, Bradley, Kevin Bryan, Jody, Jessica, Joshua, Nathan, Matthew, and Adam and ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and cousins. A private viewing for the family will be held at the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, prior to interment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lake Township.
