Barbara Ann Hoyt, 73 of Monroe Township, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Highland Manor Nursing Home. Barbara was born in Wilkes Barre to the late Donald and Gloria Lamoreaux Metzger on May 11, 1950. She graduated from Dallas Area High School in 1968. In high school she was a member of the Business Education Club, the Drill Team, and the Basketball Team. Upon graduation she worked in the payroll department of General Cigar in Forty Fort where she met her husband, Glenn S. Hoyt. Glenn and Barbara married on April 25th, 1970, and they started a life together in Monroe Township. Over their 50 years of marriage, Barbara and Glenn enjoyed camping, fishing, family reunions, hosting neighborhood parties, and "Sunday Drives." Barbara loved her family endlessly, and ensured she never missed a practice, play, game, or event for her children or grandchildren. Some of her proudest moments included seeing her granddaughter sing, act, dance, and more. Barbara was a skilled baker, which led to her being hired as Head Baker at the opening of Evans Falls Elementary School in 1978, where she happily remained until her retirement. She continued baking throughout her retirement, and was known for baking countless cookies, candies, and other confections at the holidays. Barbara also enjoyed gardening and was known for her massive vegetable garden. She loved crocheting, crafting, and making ornaments. She was a member of the Kunkle United Methodist Church, and proudly served as the President of the Kunkle United Methodist Women for over 20 years, and also served many years as Church Board President. Throughout her 50 years as a member, she enjoyed planning and attending many bake sales, chili cook offs, candlelight services, bible studies, soup sales, and always helping those in need. Barbara's faith shaped her inner strength, which helped her become a two-time cancer survivor, bravely overcoming Lymphoma in 2017 and Breast Cancer in 2021. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Metzger, her loving husband Glenn S. Hoyt, and adored grandson, Skyler James Notari. Barbara will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by her children, Heather Myers of Monroe Township, Glenn Hoyt and his wife Amy of Dallas, as well as her cherished granddaughter, Tesia Notari. The family of Barbara Hoyt would like to thank the caring and talented staff at Highland Manor Nursing Home in Exeter, PA for their support throughout Barbara's recent battle with Parkinson's Disease; as well as the kindness of the Compassionate Care Hospice Program of Olyphant PA. A memorial service will be held Sunday October 1, 2023 at 5:00 pm from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Kenneth Brown officiating.
