David Shelton Stokes, age 80 of Lehman, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Kadima Rehabilitation And Nursing At Lakeside, Dallas
He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on May 26, 1941 and was the son of the late Rev. Emery David and Belva Mae Finch Stokes.
David attended New York State schools, finishing his senior year at Lake-Lehman High School. He served in the US Army. He was employed at Bonner Chevrolet for 43 years as a an autobody technician. David was very active as a Ham Radio operator under the call sign, KA3YRA and was a volunteer examiner for the Mergus Radio Club for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and restoring his tractor.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Janet Marie Major; sons, David Stokes and wife Kim Folk of West Wyoming; and Richard Stokes and wife Kim of Lehman; grandchildren, Jacob and Abbey Stokes; sisters, Joyce and Nancy Stokes, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 10:00 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek with his nephew, Rev. Lawrence Major, Brushton Pilgrim Holiness Church, officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM before the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Kocher Cemetery, Lake Twp.
