Obituary of Robert Richard Walker
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Richard Walker passed away on February 20, 2013 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He was born on May 10, 1937 in San Pedro, California to Lee Walker and Nelle Estes Walker. He was raised in Rifle, Colorado and graduated from Rifle High School, after which he proudly served in the US Navy. On November 4, 1960, he married Sherry Walker, the love of his life, in Denver, Colorado. He worked at Martin Marietta, was a minister, a carpenter and sold automobiles. He worked at Boeing until his retirement in 1996. His work with Boeing took he and his family all over the world. He never met a stranger and made friends quickly with his customers and acquaintances everywhere he went. He enjoyed the different cultures and especially the food everywhere he traveled. Robert spoke several languages conversationally, really loud. He played football in Vietnam, got his private pilot's license in the Philippines, won a Go Cart Championship in Spain, was in a ski race in Berchtesgaden, Germany and camped all over Europe, especially Portugal and Sicily. He enjoyed taking his boat and his family fishing on the ocean. After his retirement from Boeing, he and Sherry travelled all over the United States in their motor home, spending winters in Arizona and summers in Colorado where they were Volunteer Hosts at Vega Dam. He was a spinner of yarns and teller of tales. He loved an audience and had a distinctive laugh which could be heard for quite a distance, especially when he watched Pink Panther movies. He loved good food and bragged about Sherry's cooking often! Despite many health problems through the years his will to live and enjoy life was amazing and he lived it to the fullest. As well as many friends around the world, he is survived by his wife, Sherry Walker; his brother, Larry Walker; his daughter, Shawna Elston (Dale); his son, Bill Walker (Heidi) and his furry son, Sammy. He was so proud of his grandchildren, Scott Radish (Amy), Joshua Walker, Stephanie Walker, Dakotah Walker and Scout Walker. He was great buddies with his great grandson, Jameson McDonough Radish. He is also survived by his brother and sisters-in-law, Don and Nancy Arnold, Roy and Carol Caskey and Ann Arnold. He loved and enjoyed his nieces and nephews very much. We want to thank Dr. Levchuk and everyone in the Dialysis Center at the VA Hospital in Wilkes Barre. He cared for all of you very much because you took such great care of him. No services are planned at this time. His family will gather in Colorado to celebrate his life at a later date. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, corner of routes 29 & 118, Pikes Creek.
